In addition to the Capsule Collection, GUESS will be issuing a new edition of the covetable coffee table book: A Third Decade of GUESS, a special anniversary ad campaign starring former GUESS model Claudia Schiffer, as well as a series of in-store events throughout the world.

The 30th anniversary campaign was guided by the creative direction of Paul Marciano, CEO and Creative Director at GUESS?Inc., and shot by esteemed photographer and longtime GUESS collaborator, Ellen Von Unwerth.

Paul and Ellen partnered in 1989 for Claudia’s first GUESS campaign, and the three have reunited to work their magic and create these special images representing a remarkable milestone for the brand.

Claudia is the focal point in a series of vignettes that draw viewers in and offer an intimate glimpse of her glamorous adventure in the magnificent Sorrento, Italy.

“The story begins with Claudia arriving to her fifties-inspired hotel room for the weekend getaway where she discovers a giant bouquet of flowers waiting for her. After she playfully throws her beautiful floral arrangement throughout the room, Claudia decides to head downstairs to explore the ornate hotel restaurant in search of some excitement.”

“Once comfortable with her surroundings, her free-spirited nature is captured as she dances freely, clutching an adorable kitten and laughing contagiously. Outdoor adventures await as Claudia leaves the restaurant to explore the breathtaking Italian scenery on a vintage Vespa. The campaign showcases the exclusive, limited edition pieces that make up the 30th anniversary Capsule Collection. The highly-anticipated collection drew inspiration from iconic pieces from the GUESS archives and updated them with a modern twist. High-waisted denim cigarette pants with bold daisies, animal prints, vintage tie-waist button down tops, and a delicate lace bustier, which Claudia made famous in her first GUESS campaign, dominate the images, channeling classic GUESS looks.

It was such a great pleasure to be invited to be on the scene of the Malaysian International Gourmet Festival Gala Launch 2011 just last week.

More than two thousand of the country’s “who’s who” gathered in the Grand Ballroom of Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, to celebrate the start of the region’s most anticipated fine dining event – The Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF).

Guest of Honour for the evening was Minister of Tourism YB Dato Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen, and Royal Patron Tunku Laxamana of Negeri Sembilan Tunku Naquiyuddin Ibni Tuanku Ja’afar. Together with Organizing Chairman Dato Steve Day, they cut through a massive 12-foot high chef’s hat, marking the official entry into the ballroom.

As soon as they stepped in with the excited guests, they were greeted by sounds of clanging pots and pans from a gang of chefs, backed by a full Latin band and Festival Master Chefs waiting to greet them on stage.

The theme for this year “It’s Raining Chefs!” – a deliberately lighthearted tagline coined by Dato’ Steve Day, the Festival’s Organising Chairman, aimed at giving the Festival universal appeal. All 28 participating restaurants created specially themed stations to showcase their Festival dishes, some reflecting the MIGF theme, some an identical representation of their restaurant and others reaching as high as the ceiling of the grand ballroom.

The two thousand VIP guests included royalty, ambassadors, captains of the industry, leading corporate figures, local and international media as well as travel and food writers. Add to the mix celebrities, social movers and shakers and big boys of the food & beverage industry.

And in a moment’s notice unbeknownst to the Guest of Honour, an explosion of confetti was released into the air and just as immediately Dato’ Steve and Tunku Naquiyuddin came to the rescue by opening umbrellas over the Minister’s head.

The Minister was then taken on a tour of the Festival Restaurants beginning with West Lake Garden Chinese Restaurant from Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, who were the venue sponsor for the Gala Launch.

Was getting really excited and couldn’t wait to sample all the mouth-watering canapes!

Now an integral part of Tourism Malaysia’s “Fabulous Food 1 Malaysia” strategy, foodies everywhere can make a date with Festival restaurants to enjoy these once-in-a-year signature menus at competitive prices and at the same time enjoy bulk booking discounts and room night offers amongst other exciting promotions and offers.

Hans Stepper who started as an optician, quite early in his career also designed spectacle frames. After some experience in designing for Instrumentarium in Finland and Metzler in Germany he had the idea to use the injection moulding process for making high class frames.

Then in the seventies only very ordinary sunglasses were moulded by using cheap raw material and inferior moulding technology.

Together with a partner the first little manufacturing facility was formed: Stepper & Ide. Soon production picked up and made the business known in Europe and overseas.

Hans Stepper’s intention to mould good optical frames coincided with other important frame manufacturers’ ideas like Rodenstock who entered in cooperation with the STEPPER factory in Germany.

After years of growth German manufacturing became too expensive and the business had to close.England, still a place with less labour costs, became an important intermediate stop for Hans Stepper before the whole factory moved to China where a joint venture was formed with the ARTS Group.

Meanwhile the STEPPER EYEWEAR is a subsidiary of ARTS, and the principle part of ARTS Group’s brand business.

Hans Stepper, who lives in China had and has the brilliant opportunity to use the superb facilities and components of a large and well equipped factory: STEPPER switched from Propionate to Grilamid on plastic frames, a material of the Nylon family with excellent mechanical properties.

Eventually, injection moulded optical frames and sunglasses are being respected worldwide and produced by leading eyewear companies. STEPPER had its part in this evolution with the combination of European target orientated design and colours with the best material and manufacturing technologies.

STEPPER is – as first manufacturer – using Titanium and Beta Titanium as components with their plastic styles.

The STEPPER and StepperS collections contained a wide range of different frame types, like Titanium frames and Beta Titanium rimless models.

It was 22nd of June, the World Oyster Day! And I was glad to be invited by 7ate9 to attend this popular celebrated festival around the world. A day dedicated to celebrate and commemorate oysters is all the rage in European continents. Now it is Kuala Lumpur’s turn to enjoy a full-fledged oyster tribute, thanks to 7ate9! And frankly speaking, I wasn’t aware that there’s such festival until I received the invitation a month ago. Well lucky me, I’m a huge fan of fresh oysters. =)

Different designs for me to choose from, and I fell in love with the last one right away. Hearts, lollipops, ribbons and polka dots, how can you not?

 This is gonna take a while, but it’ll be worth it.

The adorable designer of Gallo, Teresa Thian came and talk to us while we were doing our nails. Teresa graduated from Raffles Design Institute Kuala Lumpur in 2005. Instead of opting to complete her degree, she was fervent to bring her skills into the fashion world. She opened 1927 Design Sdn Bhd to produce her own lavel Gallo by Thian in September 2006. The name “Gallo” originates from the Italian translation of her Chinese name, Siew Lin. Teresa stands by her philosophy, which is to incorporate fashion into everyday lifestyle. Made mostly out of silk, her designs are created specifically to compliment the women’s silhouette yet be comfortable.

Can’t wait to have pretty nails soon! Oh did I mention it’s gelish and can last for more than a month? Yeeeeappp. *grins*

First dish, Mix Salad Greens and Asian Seaweed topped with Wafu Dressing.

Appetizer: Pan-seared Foie Gras with Volcano Maki

Entree: Surf and Turf with Pan-seared Salmon, Grilled Lamb Rack and Jumbo Fried Prawn with a trio of exciting sauce

Dessert: Homemade Coconut Ice-cream served with Rum Raisin layered cake mix fruit

It was an undeniably great night I must say, honoured too! Being able to share the joyful moment with our local celebrities at the grand opening of EurAsia located in Damansara Heights just two weeks ago. Free flow of champagne and laughter all night long was just perfect for a Saturday night like this.

Besides, I must tell you that the food, the food served that night were extremely delicious!

First, the salad with Wafu dressing that taste exactly like Wasabi (also my first time trying) was surprisingly good! Not to mention that the pan-seared Foie Gras was tastefully delectable – slightly crispy on the outside and smooth in texture on the inside. Grilled lamb rack was good too! Love it when the chefs thoughtfully wrapped a foil on the bone so that the guests can easily eat the tenderly grilled meat with their fingers.

Finally, the desserts! Everyone deserves desserts, especially after such a delightful meal like this. The homemade coconut ice-cream was HEAVENLY! Rich and creamy Vanilla ice-cream with generous amount of shredded coconut meat in it was incredibly mouth-watering my sweet tooth can’t help but kept wanting for more! Every guests at the table went “ooH!” and “Ahhh!” after the first spoonful of it. =)
